🌿 Leaving everything behind… to return to the origin

In this same blog, where a bit of Ksumai’s history is explained, there is a short phrase, almost hidden between the lines. This phrase invites us to reflect on the importance of understanding where we come from and how our roots influence our present. The connection with our traditions and ancestors often becomes a driving force of inspiration for those seeking a purpose in life.

This decision was a true act of courage to return to the origin of my roots and experiences. In today’s world, where everything moves at a rapid pace and priorities are constantly shifting, decisions like these remind us of the importance of returning to our foundations and values. It is a call to introspection and the search for authenticity, qualities that can be crucial in our personal journey.

“Rafael and Núria, in 2010, two specialists in Traditional Chinese Medicine, decided to leave everything behind and embark on a journey to Africa.” This decision not only symbolizes a physical change, but also a change of mindset. By leaving behind their comfortable life in Spain, we choose to face the unknown, an experience that can be transformative and revelatory for anyone willing to take that step.

It’s easy to say, isn’t it? But today I want to dwell on those words: “leaving everything.” Because leaving everything… was truly leaving everything. This act of detachment isn’t easy. It involves letting go of ties, relinquishing security, and opening oneself to new experiences. It’s a process that can be painful, but essential for personal growth. Each of us has our own “everything” to leave behind, and what it means can vary from person to person.

It means leaving behind children, friends, parents, family, your homeland, the air you know, the customs that sustain you, the foods that nourish you, and even that comfort zone you believe will last forever. It’s an act of renunciation that can lead to loneliness and nostalgia, but also to freedom and the possibility of new connections. Along this path, one can encounter people and cultures that enrich one’s life and give one new perspectives on existence.

In 2010, I left Spain to live in Africa. And I stayed there for 10 years. Ten years of warmth, laughter, tears, learning, and dedication. Ten years of sharing life, teaching Chinese medicine, learning about simplicity, gratitude, and the value of each day. During this time, I was able to observe how life is different in every corner of the world, and how the universal values ​​of love and solidarity prevail, regardless of cultural differences. Africa gave me more than I could have imagined: it gave me humility, it gave me soul, it gave me purpose. This personal transformation was the result of a profound journey both inward and outward, where a sense of community and belonging became fundamental pillars of my new life.

Today, walking through the forests of Girona with my dogs—who, interestingly, are better fed than many of the children I met there—I understood again why I founded Ksumai. Founding Ksumai was more than a project; it was an act of love for the communities I met in Africa. Every day I remembered the smiles of those children and the desire to contribute to their well-being. In the nature of Girona, surrounded by peace and beauty, I realized that my mission was to build bridges between worlds, bringing the lessons of Africa to a wider audience.

Ksumai was born from that wound and that hope. It was born to continue what I started in Senegal: supporting humane projects like the orphanage, the school, and the communities that grew and produced moringa oil. Each of these projects represents a story of resilience and effort. It was born to continue contributing to the well-being of people, here and there. In every action, in every product we offer, a commitment to sustainable development and respect for the environment is reflected. To build a bridge between two worlds. To offer health, beauty, and balance with products that respect the earth and the body. Through Ksumai, I have seen how small actions can have a significant impact, and how solidarity can change lives. To remind us that we all, at some point, need a helping hand and a little hope. This connection is what unites us and makes us stronger.
