Ksumai: Sowing hope and health in Senegal

Ksumai: Sowing hope and health in Senegal

Núria and Rafael, two therapists with a deep passion for Traditional Chinese Medicine, felt they needed to do more than just cure illnesses. They were looking for a greater purpose: sharing their knowledge and skills to empower disadvantaged communities and improve people’s quality of life. We founded the humanitarian project ACUPUNTURA PEL MÓN
In 2010, they made the decision to travel to Africa. They spent a year in Morocco where they trained future acupuncturists, treated hundreds of patients and shared their knowledge in phytotherapy. In 2011, they arrived in Senegal, a country with significant challenges in terms of health and development. There, they encountered a beautiful landscape, but also the harsh reality of lack of access to health care and basic resources in many rural areas.

Sowing the Seeds of Ksumai
Núria and Rafael did not just observe; they got down to work. They began to collaborate with community leaders and local residents to understand the real needs of the population. They continued to train, treat and help the population in towns and cities: PODOR, SANT LOUIS, DAKAR; MBOUR; ZIGUINCHOR etc..
They founded BAO-TAO an ecological plantation project with medicinal plants from Europe, Asia, America and of course, Africa. They planted the seeds of what we know today as Ksumai, an organization committed to the health and well-being of people in Senegal.

ACUPUNTURA PEL MÓN’s mission and action
Since its inception, ACUPUNTURA PEL MÓN has carried out a variety of programs and projects in Senegal:

Comprehensive health care: it has established health care clinics that provide primary care services, natural medicine and health education to remote communities.

Sustainable development: The organization works on sustainable agriculture and access to drinking water projects, helping communities obtain food and basic resources more safely and efficiently.
Education and Training: Focuses on training local health workers and educating the community on health and wellness practices.
Women Empowerment: Recognizing the crucial role of women in society, promotes gender equality and empowers women through training and entrepreneurship projects.

After 10 years of spreading all their knowledge throughout Africa, Rafael and Nuria decided to return to Europe once they were established and with the support of Gabriella. They founded KSUMAI and KASUMAI WOOD to continue all the projects planted in SENEGAL.

Ksumai’s Legacy
Over the years, Ksumai has made significant changes in Senegal. It has transformed the lives of many people by providing healthcare, education, and opportunities for personal and community growth. Núria and Rafael’s vision of sowing hope and health in Senegal has become a reality that continues to flourish.
Ksumai is not just an organization; is an inspiring example of how commitment and passion can make a lasting difference in the lives of those who need it most. Ksumai’s story reminds us that with determination and empathy, we can transform entire communities and ultimately change the world for the better.
