How I learned the benefits of moringa in Podor, Senegal

Years ago, in Podor, a region in northern Senegal, I had an experience that changed my understanding of medicinal plants and their incredible benefits. As a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, I was there performing acupuncture, but we also treated all kinds of ailments with whatever we had on hand. In many cases, we were the only option for care for the locals.

One day, a man named Mamadou came to see me. I didn’t know his exact age—in fact, it’s difficult to estimate the age of a Senegalese person if they don’t know it themselves—but I would have put him at around seventy. What was evident was the severity of the wound on his foot. It had been inflicted with a piece of glass, and it was enormous. Here in Europe, someone with a wound like that would go to a hospital or a clinic, but there, in that corner of Senegal, Rafael and I were the only option.

We always carried bandages, disinfectants, and dressings sent by friends from Girona, so we began treating him immediately. However, I knew the recovery wouldn’t be easy. Mamadou mentioned a history of diabetes in his family, although he didn’t know if he had it himself. This could greatly complicate the healing process. I prepared for weeks of treatment, convinced that the wound would take a long time to heal.

To my surprise, in just a week, I was already seeing impressive improvement. The skin was regenerating at a rate I couldn’t explain. Intrigued, I asked Mamadou about his diet. I’ve always been curious about my patients’ habits, because medicine isn’t just about treatments, but about lifestyle. He told me that he took Sap-sap every day.

I had never heard of it. I wasn’t familiar with the plants from that region yet, and I wanted to know more. Then, Mamadou explained to me that Sap-sap was what in English they called Neverdaye, the tree that never dies. We were talking about moringa.

My interest grew, and I decided to investigate further. I sought information from Yassin Rassin, a great connoisseur of local medicinal plants. He confirmed that, in French, it was called moringa, and he explained many of its properties. I delved into African literature and discovered that this tree was truly extraordinary.

Moringa stabilizes blood glucose, making it ideal for people with diabetes or those predisposed to it. It provides incredible energy to children and women after childbirth, to those going through menopause, and to aid in the recovery of health after surgery or cancer treatments, as well as to men who do hard labor. It is a complete and medicinal food at the same time.

After seeing Mamadou’s wound heal completely in just 15 days, I began recommending moringa to more people and researching its applications. Over time, this led me to develop the products that are now part of Ksumai. The Moringa Complex formula was born from this experience, as was our research into moringa oil and its endless properties.

This story not only shaped my path, but is also the origin of what we share with you today. So, when you try our moringa oils or supplements, know that behind them lies a profound learning experience, an experience in which nature showed me its power in the most powerful way.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
